Senior Quantity Surveyor

As Senior QS you will have had relevant construction experience with a large / medium sized contractor working on large and possibly complex projects. You will be responsible for the provision of all commercial, contractual issues on the projects and the business to ensure project and business profit objectives and targets are met and cash is managed to maximise performance. Project dependant you will be working within a team of QS's

Key Responsibilities

  • Sole / part (project dependant) responsibility for a project or a number of smaller projects or working within a team to achieve this.
  • All Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation and agreement of work sections.
  • Preparation of interim applications for payment and internal valuations.
  • Interim administration and settlement of subcontractors' accounts.
  • Assisting in preparation of loss and expense submissions.
  • Provide junior staff with guidance on their job responsibilities.
  • Negotiate with client's representatives and other consultants.
  • Advise project management on contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  • Advise on commercial risks within the project or projects.
  • Preparation of monthly contract review reports
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts information
  • Ensure that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  • Able to apply first principles measuring and pricing skills to prepare detailed estimates for future projects.
  • Able to prepare high level cost plans/initial budget advice from scheme drawings using database information.

Your profile

  • Degree at BSc. level in Quantity Surveying or other relevant subject.
  • At least 12 - 15 years commercial / QS experience.
  • Good commercial and financial knowledge at project and corporate/regional level.
  • Good knowledge of various forms of contracts, estimation and cost-control processes.
  • Strong communicator; has presence and maturity; calm and tactful.
  • Shows initiative in resolving problems.
  • Understands and seeks to minimise waste in resources and processes.
  • Delivers a reliable and timely output of work to meet requirements.
  • Willingness to be involved in other activities to achieve company objectives.
  • Inspires, challenges and motivates others.
