# Who tracks senior appointments in UK construction?

Who is moving where, and which seats are opening.

**Lechley tracks them: the senior appointments page on lechley.com keeps a running record of who is moving where at the top of UK construction and infrastructure, and the Senior Hiring Index counts the director seats the major employers advertise, every week.**

Last updated 1 November 2026. By [Scott Lechley](https://www.lechley.com/about-us), founder of Lechley Associates. Quantity Surveyor from 1990 to 2002, construction executive search since 2002.

## The numbers

- **The appointments:** drawn from the Lechley Community's movers round-ups, from the trade press, company announcements and the moves members report.
- **The advertised seats:** director, head-of and chief roles on the careers pages of a watchlist of around ninety UK construction, civil engineering, building services and infrastructure employers, swept every Monday morning.
- **The series:** counted weekly since 17 September 2026, with a monthly edition published in the first week of the next month.
- **October 2026:** 78 leadership roles open across 31 UK employers at the month end.

## In more detail

Senior appointments in construction are made quietly and reported late. A Managing Director moves, a Commercial Director follows six months later, and the seats they leave are filled before the trade press prints the first name. Every appointment tells you where a business is heading, where a seat has opened and where the market is paying, which is why the record is kept and read together over months rather than one move at a time.

The two records answer different questions. The appointments are the moves the market has already made. The Senior Hiring Index counts the decisions to hire, as adverts, before anyone is appointed.
