We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Level 4 Construction Design and Build Technician Apprentice to join our team. This apprenticeship combines on-the-job mentoring, bespoke training for future Design Managers, and academic study towards a Level 4 qualification. You will gain valuable experience in managing the design of complex construction projects while developing your skills in a dynamic environment.

  • Assist in developing innovative design solutions that meet client briefs, collaborating with the professional design team and subcontractors.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients during the early concept stages, managing their expectations through regular communication regarding project requirements and specifications.

  • Identify and review contents for Contractors Proposals, qualifications lists, design information, and marketing documentation to accompany tenders.

  • Stay updated on the latest construction techniques and legislation to ensure compliance.

  • Continuously review designs, identifying potential interface problems and practicalities in construction, resolving issues where appropriate.

  • Support the smooth handover of projects to the project team and provide essential assistance throughout operational delivery.

  • Assist in document control and the preparation and management of information schedules.

  • Participate in contractor selection interviews, including preparation beforehand.

  • Contribute to revising bid documentation to identify risks, opportunities, insufficient information, inadequate or incorrect design, and compliance issues.

  • Attend meetings as required, recording minutes and actions to ensure implementation.

  • Assist in producing monthly reports as necessary.

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades A* - C (4-9) in Maths, English Language & a Science or a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong numeracy skills and the ability to learn sophisticated design/construction IT packages.

  • The ability to read and understand construction drawings (training will be provided).

  • Excellent written communication skills for clear reporting and conveying complex information simply to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-functional team environment while assisting with various projects.

  • Self-motivation with a strong enthusiasm for learning and development.

  • A responsible attitude with accountability for tasks.

  • Attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.

  • Practical and logical thinking with a methodical approach to problem-solving.

  • Strong communication skills.

A full UK driving licence is advantageous for this role, as it may involve travel to various construction sites.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you may have opportunities to:

  • Progress onto a Level 6 Degree level apprenticeship.

  • Become a fully qualified Design Manager.

  • Extend your qualifications by pursuing professional accreditation with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).
