We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Level 4 Construction Design and Build Technician Apprentice to join our team. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while studying towards a Level 4 qualification in Construction Design and Build. Over a 3-year period, you will receive bespoke training for future Design Managers, along with on-the-job mentoring and learning. When not fully engaged on-site or in the office, you will attend a local college or apprenticeship provider.

You will work towards achieving a Level 4 Construction Design and Build Technician Apprenticeship qualification through a combination of college coursework and practical work-based experience.

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE Grades A* - C (4-9) in Maths, English Language & a Science – Essential

  • Alternatively, completion of a Level 2 Apprenticeship

  • Strong numeracy skills and proficiency in sophisticated design/construction IT packages

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings (training provided)

  • Proficient in writing clear and precise reports and conveying complex information simply to diverse audiences

  • Capacity to work effectively in a multi-functional and dynamic team environment

  • Self-motivated with a strong enthusiasm for learning and development

  • Responsible and accountable for your work

  • Attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines

As an apprentice, you will support the Design Manager and project delivery team in managing the design of complex construction projects throughout various design phases. You will develop construction knowledge and experience that will enable you to prepare innovative and cost-effective design solutions while ensuring practical buildability in line with specifications and compliance.

  • Assist in developing innovative design solutions based on client briefs with input from the professional design team and subcontractors.

  • Build relationships with clients during early concept stages; manage project expectations through regular communication regarding requirements and specifications.

  • Maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the professional design team while resolving any queries.

  • Identify and check contents for Contractors Proposals, qualifications lists, design information, and marketing documentation to accompany tenders.

  • Stay updated on the latest construction techniques and legislation.

  • Continuously review designs, identify potential interface problems, and resolve practical issues in construction as necessary.

  • Assist in ensuring smooth handover of projects to the project team while providing essential support throughout operational delivery.

  • Manage document control and assist in preparing information schedules.

  • Attend contractor selection interviews, including preparation beforehand.

  • Revise bid documentation to identify risks, opportunities, insufficient information, inadequate or incorrect design, and compliance issues.

  • Attend meetings as required; record minutes and actions while ensuring implementation.

  • Assist in producing monthly reports as needed.

A full UK driving licence is advantageous for this role. Expect exciting travel opportunities to various construction sites and project locations.

Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Progress onto a Level 6 Degree level apprenticeship

  • Become a fully qualified Design Manager

  • Extend your qualifications by pursuing professional certifications with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB)
