Role Purpose
The Chief Estimator will be responsible for leading and managing the estimating function of Able UK, ensuring competitive, accurate, and timely cost estimates for major decommissioning, engineering, construction, and related projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in project bidding, strategic pricing, and supporting contract negotiations, significantly impacting the company’s commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and manage the estimating team, establishing best practices and ensuring quality outputs.
- Develop accurate cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions for complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to gather required information and ensure successful bid outcomes.
- Identify and analyse project risks, developing appropriate contingency strategies.
- Review, challenge, and sign off on all significant estimates before submission.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market rates, suppliers, and subcontractors to inform pricing strategies.
- Support contract negotiations and value engineering efforts with robust cost and risk data.
- Continually improve estimating tools, processes, and methodologies.
Requirements
- Substantial experience in estimating roles within decommissioning, construction, engineering, or similar industrial sectors.
- Proven track record of preparing and winning bids for large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.
- Deep understanding of cost estimation techniques, quantity surveying, and commercial risk management.
- Exceptional analytical and numerical skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A relevant degree in engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, or a similar discipline is desirable.
Location
Able UK head office, with flexibility to travel to UK project sites as required.
