 Position Summary
A leading international construction and engineering firm is seeking an experienced and strategic Commercial Manager to join their UK healthcare infrastructure team. This pivotal role involves steering the commercial strategy and ensuring the financial success of a major healthcare initiative valued at £37 billion. The ideal candidate will lead commercial management from project inception through to completion in collaboration with senior leadership.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee commercial operations for substantial healthcare infrastructure projects, guaranteeing sound financial oversight, contract management, and adherence to company standards.
  • Formulate and execute commercial strategies in line with corporate and project objectives.
  • Manage the preparation, negotiation, and acceptance of contracts and subcontracts.
  • Supervise cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting functions.
  • Contribute to risk management, value engineering, and procurement strategies with commercial insights.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture within the commercial team and across project teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure quality and team synergy.
  • Support business growth activities through bid management and tender preparation.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal policies.
  • Offer guidance and development to junior commercial staff, fostering talent and enabling succession planning.

Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in a similar role (Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager) within major infrastructure, healthcare, or construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial management principles, contract law, and procurement.
  • Experience managing complex high-value contracts (NEC, JCT, FIDIC, or similar).
  • Exceptional leadership abilities emphasising teamwork and collaboration.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic, analytical thinker capable of enhancing commercial performance and identifying value opportunities.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field; RICS or equivalent professional membership preferred.
  • Experience in large, international construction or engineering firms is highly valued.
