We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team, specialising in civil engineering and marine projects across the Caribbean and North/South American regions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cost estimation for infrastructure, coastal, and marine construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and marine projects, including ports, coastal defences, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure developments.
- Project Analysis: Analyse project plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine the scope of work and required resources.
- Site Assessments: Conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions and gather essential information.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and specifications.
- Market Research: Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and regional construction costs, materials, and labour rates.
- Supplier Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing information.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare and present bid proposals, including technical and commercial components.
- Contract Support: Assist in contract negotiations and value engineering exercises.
- Cost Monitoring: Monitor project costs during execution and analyse variances.
- Project Scheduling: Support the development of project schedules and resource allocation plans.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimation for civil engineering or marine projects.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, HCSS HeavyBid) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards specific to the Caribbean region.
- Contract Standards: Familiarity with international contracting standards (e.g., FIDIC, NEC).
- Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication skills in English. Spanish or French language skills are a plus.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel frequently within the Caribbean and to North/South American countries.
Desired Skills
- Experience with marine and coastal engineering projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and environmental regulations in the region.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) software.
- Understanding of risk assessment and management in construction projects.
