Role Summary
We are looking for a driven and proactive Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor
to be a visible and critical presence on our project sites. You will be instrumental in coaching, supporting, and empowering site management and operational teams to achieve the highest standards of safety, health, and worker wellbeing. This role is focused on the practical application of best practices and legal compliance, serving as a frontline advocate for continuous improvement and positive safety behaviours across diverse and challenging projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Guidance & Coaching: Provide expert, timely advice to site leadership and all employees on the practical implementation of our HSE management system, specific wellbeing initiatives, and all applicable UK statutory safety requirements.
- Site Assurance and Auditing: Conduct frequent, detailed site inspections, audits, and safety tours. Accurately document findings, clearly communicate risk levels, and actively support teams in developing and completing effective corrective action plans.
- Documentation Support: Assist project teams in developing, reviewing, and rigorously maintaining critical safety documents, including Method Statements, site-specific Risk Assessments, and Construction Phase Plans.
- Training & Competence: Design, coordinate, and deliver targeted health and safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and inductions to significantly raise safety awareness and ensure competence across all personnel and subcontractors.
- Incident Response: Monitor safety performance data, participate in or facilitate the investigation of all incidents, accidents, and near-misses. Focus on identifying immediate and underlying causes to formulate robust preventative measures.
- Risk Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, commercial, and operational teams from the planning stage onward to proactively identify and mitigate complex health and safety risks before they materialise on site.
- Knowledge Management: Maintain current knowledge of evolving industry standards, new legislation, and HSE best practices, communicating all relevant updates effectively to project stakeholders.
- System Development: Actively contribute feedback and support the implementation of enhancements to the company's overarching safety management system (ISO 45001 framework).
Requirements
- Professional Qualification: Attainment of the NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent qualification) is required. A commitment to pursuing further professional development (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) is highly valued.
- Sector Experience: Proven, hands-on experience in a Health & Safety advisory or field-based role, ideally within the heavy civil engineering, construction, or utility/infrastructure environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of UK Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation, particularly relating to the construction sector (e.g., CDM Regulations).
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrable ability to engage, motivate, and positively influence diverse teams across all levels of the organisation.
- Attributes: Highly organised, meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and a proactive, resourceful approach to promoting a high-performance safety culture.
What We Offer
- Career Growth: Significant opportunities for professional advancement and financial support for higher-level qualifications within a dynamic global structure.
- Impactful Work: The chance to directly contribute to sustainable, landmark projects that benefit communities and the environment.
- Compensation: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including ongoing training and development.
