Senior Estimator - Water Sector

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Water Infrastructure team based in Exeter. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing and submitting tenders for water-related construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

Tender Preparation and Submission
- Appraise tender documents
- Prepare material and sub-contract enquiries
- Select prospective subcontractors
- Prepare tender Bills of Quantities
- Create analytical cost estimates, including preliminaries
- Develop budgets and cost plans

Project Assessment
- Attend strategy and opportunity meetings with the project team
- Visit sites to identify specific risks
- Contribute to the design development process
- Attend design team meetings as required

Commercial and Risk Management
- Adjudicate and compare sub-contractor quotations
- Initiate technical queries to ensure accurate costings
- Manage risks throughout the tender period
- Prepare tender Risk Registers
- Conduct value engineering for design and build projects

Tender Presentation and Handover
- Present tenders to senior management at settlement meetings
- Highlight major commercial issues and elevated risks
- Complete tender documentation and submit tenders
- Ensure smooth handover to the operational team

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education and Professional Background
- Construction-related degree or equivalent (essential)
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a similar role

Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Extensive experience in analytical estimating for projects up to £25m
- Competent with estimating software
- Well-developed technical construction knowledge
- Familiarity with all forms of contracts (traditional, partnering, design & build, etc.)
- Understanding of industry standards
- Awareness of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Cost planning expertise
