Role Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager
to join our dynamic regional team, focusing on high-profile projects. This is a critical leadership role that directly influences our operational success and cultural commitment to well-being. The successful candidate will be the principal authority for Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance, driving a proactive safety agenda across all project lifecycles to protect our people, partners, assets, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic System Management: Design, deploy, and continuously refine a robust, integrated Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system, ensuring full alignment with international best practices and regulatory frameworks across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
- Regulatory Compliance & Assurance: Lead and execute rigorous internal and external audits, comprehensive risk assessments, and proactive site inspections. Verify absolute adherence to all relevant national legislation and stringent company HSE standards across all active project sites.
- Advisory Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance and practical support to senior management and operational teams. Directly contribute to the tendering process and the development of bespoke, complex project HSE plans.
- Incident Investigation & Resolution: Take charge of all accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, employing advanced root cause analysis techniques to determine causative factors. Develop and track high-impact preventative and corrective action plans to eliminate recurrence.
- Training & Cultural Development: Design and deliver high-quality, engaging HSE training programs, induction courses, and safety leadership workshops for all levels of staff and subcontractors, actively fostering a resilient, reporting-driven, and interdependent safety culture.
- Performance Reporting: Develop and manage key HSE metrics and performance indicators. Generate clear, data-driven reports for the Executive Team, highlighting trends, challenges, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Environmental Stewardship: Ensure project activities minimise environmental impact, focusing on waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainable operational practices.
Requirements
- HSE Qualification: Possession of the NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) is mandatory. Additional specialist certifications (e.g., specific construction safety, environmental management) are highly desirable.
- Sector Expertise: Substantial and demonstrable experience (minimum 7 years) in a senior Health & Safety leadership role within the complex civil engineering, infrastructure, or heavy construction sectors.
- Legal Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of UK and Irish Health and Safety Legislation (e.g., CDM, HSA) , including practical application and interpretation on live sites.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional interpersonal skills, proven ability to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills tailored for all organisational levels.
- Analytical Acumen: Proficient in using safety management software and analysing large datasets to identify systemic risks and inform strategic HSE decision-making.
- Mobility: Must possess the flexibility and willingness to travel extensively between various project locations and regional offices across the operating territory.
