Topping Out

Leadership journeys in UK construction, from Lechley.

A green steel I-beam, end on, against a charcoal construction grid

Every episode

One leader, one career, traced from the first job to the top.

The starting line
The starting line

Where they began. The first job on site or in the business, before anyone knew their name.

The pivotal moves
The pivotal moves

The two or three decisions that changed everything: the risky move, the mentor, the job they almost turned down, the setback that sent them somewhere better.

The Last Lift
The Last Lift

The last lift is the final piece raised before topping out. Three questions every guest answers: the best leadership advice they were given, what they would tell themselves at 25, and who I should speak to next.

Who it is for

Topping Out cover art: the words TOPPING OUT with a green steel I-beam as the I, and the Lechley logo

Anyone building a career in UK construction and infrastructure, and the leaders already running one. No corporate script and no sales pitch: just the real story of a career, and what it teaches the next generation coming up behind.

The show is hosted by me, Scott Lechley. I am a Quantity Surveyor by training and I now run retained search for senior construction leaders, so asking how someone got to the top is the job I do every day. You can read more about me, or read the essays while you wait for episode one.
