Role overview
As a Senior Commercial Manager you will lead commercial strategy and delivery on major, complex projects. You will be accountable for commercial risk management, contract administration, cost control and commercial reporting. Working closely with project leadership, supply chain partners and clients, you will protect margin, drive value, ensure commercial compliance and contribute to the overall success of projects that deliver lasting impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management across assigned projects, including contract administration, claims management, variations and programme-linked commercial matters.
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies that protect margin and maximise value for the business and our clients.
  • Produce and maintain accurate forecasting, cost-to-complete and cashflow reporting; present commercial performance to senior stakeholders.
  • Identify, evaluate and mitigate commercial risks; implement robust controls and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage procurement and supply chain commercial relationships; negotiate terms, change orders and settlement of disputes.
  • Support bid preparation and tender pricing as required, ensuring alignment between commercial and delivery teams.
  • Mentor and develop junior commercial staff; foster a collaborative, one-team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company policies and relevant legislation.

Experience & skills

  • Proven track record as a Commercial Manager / Senior Commercial Manager within construction or consultancy on complex projects.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge across NEC3/NEC4, JCT, or equivalent forms of contract.
  • Excellent financial acumen with experience of forecasting, cost control, change management and commercial reporting.
  • Confident negotiator with experience managing claims, variations and dispute avoidance/ resolution.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior client and supply-chain levels.
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring and developing commercial teams.
  • Degree or diploma in construction, quantity surveying, commercial management or equivalent professional qualification (RICS, CIOB or similar desirable).
  • Proficiency with commercial systems and Microsoft Office; familiarity with project cost-control software is advantageous.
